Education serves as a cornerstone for a fulfilling life, empowering individuals to stand on their own feet. Despite India’s literacy rate of 74%, there’s still much progress to be made, especially for women. Kokan Kala Va Shikshan Vikas Sanstha’s Village Development Programs aim to address this gap, offering women like Sonali the tools to break societal barriers and become self-sufficient.

Sonali resides in Sillai, a village where she lives with her family. Her lack of education and specialized skills led her to low-paying jobs, barely enough to make ends meet. The struggle was compounded by societal expectations and the humiliation of being unable to read or write, affecting her daily life, especially when managing household tasks.

Her life took a turn when she discovered the Village Development Programs offered by Kokan NGO, particularly the tailoring classes. These programs not only provide basic education but also instill confidence and motivation to improve living standards. Despite being a mother and having daily responsibilities, Sonali found the courage to start her education, balancing classes with her household duties.

Since joining the program, Sonali has made remarkable progress. She can now read, write, and manage basic math—skills that have significantly improved her daily life. She confidently handles transactions at the market, updates procurement registers, and inspires other women in the village to join the program.

Sonali’s journey exemplifies the transformative power of education and empowerment. Through Kokan NGO’s programs, she has not only improved her life but has also become a beacon of hope and inspiration for others in her community. Her next goal is to develop a skill in candlemaking to further enhance her income and financial independence.

The Village Development Programs of Kokan NGO are instrumental in empowering rural women like Sonali , providing them with the tools to lead independent and fulfilling lives.
