In August 2025, nearly 1,400 villages across more than
23 districts of Punjab were devastated by severe floods—the worst disaster in the region since
1988. Unusually heavy monsoon rains in the upper catchment areas of Himachal Pradesh and Jammu &
Kashmir, combined with surplus water releases from major dams such as Pong, Ranjit Sagar, and
Bhakra, intensified flooding downstream.
Districts along the Ravi, Beas, and Sutlej rivers were hit the hardest, leaving homes, farms, and
essential infrastructure submerged. The impact has been catastrophic, displacing lakhs of people
and destroying livelihoods. Families are still struggling to recover from the widespread
devastation, with urgent needs for food, clean water, shelter, medical support, and education
materials.
The floods swept away homes, farms, schools, and essential infrastructure. Families have been left with no homes, no livelihoods, and no source of income. Over 2.5 lakh people have been displaced, and more than 9,000 houses were either damaged or completely destroyed.
Kokan NGO has risen to the call of humanity by extending its relief efforts to flood-affected Punjab. With years of experience in disaster response and social welfare across Maharashtra and other parts of India, the NGO is delivering life-saving aid to families in desperate need. From freshly cooked meals and ration kits to hygiene essentials and clean drinking water, every initiative is focused on protecting lives and ensuring dignity during this crisis. Temporary shelters, medical care, and support for vulnerable groups like children and the elderly remain at the heart of their mission.
